Summer Wine Spritzers

Summer Wine Spritzers

Wine spritzers and cocktails

Our top 3 most delicious wine spritzers to cool you down this summer!

It’s almost summer! To try to encourage some excitement about December and our lovely warm summer days, we have found some really delicious wine spritzers that are sure to leave you feeling refreshed and ready for some fun in the sun.

Hard to believe that a few months ago anyone would be thinking of the possibility of actually enjoying summer. We all felt at one point or another, that winter and our lockdown would never come to an end. But it seems that against all odds, the sun has decided to shine, bringing with it that familiar excitement about the December holidays. Those balmy warm summer nights, the smell of sunblock and an evening braai, and the feeling of beach sand between your toes. Of course, all these things cannot happen without some tantalizing cold refreshments to wash it all down with.

Before we start, it’s good to note that aside from your ingredients, the key to super refreshing wine spritzers or cocktails, are making sure your wine and mixer are as cold as possible! Think icy cold. A great idea to keep things as chilled as possible is to freeze your fruit (if you are using any) and use these instead of ice blocks. This adds an extra twist to your wine spritzer but more importantly, it keeps your wine from being too watered down.

White wine spritzers

We love a nice Sauvignon Blanc. Characteristically Sauvignon Blanc is quite an aromatic varietal and so it can do with the addition of a mixer without dulling the notes of the wine too much.

Ingredients:
2020 Hillcrest Sauvignon Blanc

One bottle of ice-cold Savvy

A small handful of fresh mint leaves

2 tablespoons of sugar

2 tablespoons of water

Lemon and orange slices

Method:

First, add your sugar and water to a small pot and dissolve on low heat. Let this cool before adding your mint leaves and muddle slightly. Add a teaspoon of this minty syrup into each wine glass and top up with your wine. Add a slice of lemon and orange and enjoy!!!

Rose Wine Spritzers

Could summer really be summer without some Rose around? We think not. Here is a lovely fresh and super simple recipe for a Rose spritzer.

(A good general rule for your wine to mixer ratio is about 3 parts wine to 1 part mixer)

Ingredients:
Hillcrest Rose

A bottle of ice-cold Rose

Strawberries – pop these into the freezer the day before

Good quality soda water

Method:

Pour about 3 quarters of a glass of Rose into your glass and top up with your soda water. Pop in your pre-frozen strawberries (or any other delightful little frozen fruits) and enjoy! Garnish with a strawberry on the rim.

MCC cocktail

Who doesn’t love the sound of popping bottles?! Just because we love a good bubbly, we have included one of our classic favourites, the Mimosa. Truly a great drink that can be used as an excuse to have wine for breakfast. What could be better!

Ingredients:

MCC or a nice dry sparkling wine

Freshly squeezed orange juice

Method:

Fill about half a champaign flute with your orange juice.

It really does taste better to use freshly squeezed juice, but we know it can be a hassle. Some decent store-bought OJ works great too!

Grab your cold bottle of bubbles, pop that cork, top up your glass, and enjoy!
